The Stadium in caricature
A stadium in caricature
To conclude its programming around the 1976 Summer Olympics, the MEM invites you to explore the Olympic Stadium from a fun, creative angle. Check out a collection of caricatures of the stadium and public figures like Jean Drapeau who were involved in the Montréal Olympics. Discover how this monumental construction has inspired plenty of commentary — both verbal and visual!
A talk by Anouk Bélanger
UQAM professor and researcher Anouk Bélanger will present a selection of caricatures she has collected over the course of her research. This deep dive into Montréal’s visual and popular history will show how the Olympic Stadium has become a true character in our collective imagination. Dr. Bélanger will be accompanied by Arianne Lefebvre, a master’s student and researcher in communications at UQAM, specialized in sports heritage and popular culture.
Get your pencils ready to draw . . . or write!
Guided by the illustrator Julien Castanié, participants will be invited to create their own caricature of Montréal’s Olympic Stadium or to write a humorous text inspired by its history. The workshop will run all afternoon so people can participate at their own pace.
An activity for all
No drawing or writing experience required. Whether you appreciate humour, are passionate about Montréal’s history or are simply curious, come and explore one of the city’s most iconic buildings from a new angle.
