Once upon a time, the canal...

Musée de Lachine

Meet Jean Ménard, John Murphy and Charles Dubois, key figures in the canal's history. Jean and John, the workers of the time, will tell you their stories of courage and struggle, while Charles, the designer, will explain how the project came to be. Immerse yourself in their time and ask them how they worked to complete this monumental project. The whole thing promises to be a festive affair, with Irish music playing on site, for an unforgettable experience in the heart of Lachine, where it all began!

A three-episode podcast produced by Oyez Oyez will be available via a QR code, placed on posters on the site. Each episode corresponds to one of the canal's three eras, allowing visitors to listen to the canal's history in situ, while exploring illustrations and information from the respective era.

An interactive game recreates the experience of the 1840s, when ships were pulled by horses. Participants will have to work together to move a boat forward using ropes, taking care to keep the bow well centered to avoid any damage. The whole event will take place in a festive atmosphere, with Irish music and convivial exchanges between neighbors and friends. Come and share this unique, joyful and civic moment, in the heart of Lachine, where it all began!

Three key eras of the canal will be highlighted: its opening in 1825, its first expansion in 1840, and its second expansion in 1870.

This theatrical animation is part of the borough's celebrations : Lachine fête son canal!
