Candy-making workshop
An activity that will delight young and old sweet tooths alike!
Fans of Sainte-Catherine taffy, come discover another traditional treat from the Congregation of Notre Dame: clear candy!
Commonly known as ‘barley sugar,’ this European confectionery was adopted in North America in the 19th century. It was prepared for Easter and Christmas. Metal moulds were used to create a variety of shapes: animals, Christmas trees, characters. Children played with these hard candy ‘toys’ until they broke... then enjoyed eating them.
In this unique workshop, you will learn more about the recipe and see authentic moulds bequeathed to the Museum by the Congregation of Notre Dame. The whole family is then invited to create a delicious mini stained-glass window by arranging pieces of coloured sweets, a sweet creation to take home.
