Gestures on portrayal Luther Konadu

From November 4 to December 18 2021

The exhibition Gestures on Portrayal is a presentation of the ongoing documentary project Figure as Index, which Luther Konadu started in 2015. Constantly fed and reworked (through strategies such as collage, the use of text and re-photography), this ensemble with undefined boundaries seeks in the photographic capture of the portrait and in the physicality of the image, the emergence of personal and collective identities. Yet, it is in a spatial deployment that the work takes on its full dimension, reconfiguring the viewer's relationship to the photograph. "The manipulation of framing and dimension creates a spatial effect leading the viewer's body to orchestrate movement differently, not a movement dependent on passive viewing, but one that is necessary for immersion and active looking.
