Witches – Out of the Shadows
Delve into the history of witches and their world
Immerse yourself in the bewitching exhibition design as you explore more than 400 objects from European and American collections. Ethnographic objects, manuscripts, paintings… authentic witnesses that recount the history of witches—including the dark “witch hunt” period, when tens of thousands of women were persecuted and condemned to tragic fates in the 16th and 17th centuries.
This historical immersion examines the beliefs, symbols, and fascinating practices of witchcraft, which have been passed down for generations. Pendulums, crystals, tarot cards, herbariums, and interactive elements will invite you to explore some of these practices, such as divination, spells, healing, and protection rituals.
Witches, from the past to the present
From the old hag in folk tales to the rebellious young witches in modern-day films and series, explore how the fascinating figure of the witch has evolved over time and in popular culture. Clothing, audiovisual archives, and iconic objects illustrate how these representations have changed down through the years.
Having become a symbol of modern feminism, today the witch embodies resilience and emancipation, reflecting the struggles and advances of contemporary feminist movements. An opportunity to get the perspective of modern witches asserting their know-how, their social skills, and their art.
