Fabrik² – Creativity Factory
The Montréal Science Centre celebrates Montreality with four new creative challenges inspired by famous Montreal landmarks. Imagine and invent solutions to overcome technological challenges and build your prototypes using real tools and all sorts of different materials. There’s no such thing as a bad idea at Fabrik2!
C is for Challenge, and M is for Montreal!
The Metro challenge is about designing an invention that can fly up an air tube and come out at the top.
The Ville-Marie challenge, inspired by Montreal’s original name, is about building a level structure that has specific dimensions. This highly creative challenge involves using motors, LEDs and circuit switches.
The Mount challenge, an ode to Mount Royal, is about building a prototype that can travel from the top of a hill and stop in a specific area. Careful though! Road conditions change depending on whether it’s summer or winter.
The River challenge, inspired by the St. Lawrence River, is about making a device that can float between the water surface and the bottom of the tank for at least 10 seconds.
A Tinkering-Based Experience
Fabrik2 is a tinkering-based experience. Tinkering is a learning approach designed to:
- Stir creativity and innovative thinking with challenges that can be solved in a variety of ways
- Encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing
- Foster knowledge acquisition and the cross-pollination of ideas through experimentation, all inside a non-competitive setting
- Focus on the process rather than the end result
- Turn mistakes into a source of inspiration and an opportunity to learn
- Offer visitors a fun and highly engaging environment
Visitors with special needs
Fabrik2 is an accessible exhibition that particularly appeals to visitors with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities or reduced mobility. All challenges are designed to meet the needs of these visitors thanks to a multisensory approach and a series of adaptations.
