The exhibition presents Montreal's origins, the history of the Hôtel-Dieu, the city's first hospital founded by Jeanne Mance, and the Hospitallers of Saint Joseph, who managed the Hôtel-Dieu until 1973. During your visit, discover the unique artifacts and archives that make up the Nuns' collection. These objects will allow you to relive the evolution of medicine and the health crises that plagued Montreal.

Our Mountain: Memories of Mount Royal
Affectionately referred to as “the mountain” by Montrealers, the Mount Royal is a Montreal landmark. Located in the heart of the city, this vast territory contains a rich ecology and an exceptional biodiversity.
Today the Mount Royal is a heritage site protected by many people and organizations. But how did our ancestors view this mountain? How have they inhabited it? The Mount Royal has been a key witness to the evolution of the center of the island of Montreal for the past 5000 years. The exhibition Our Mountain: Memories of Mount Royal tells the story of this emblematic place.
Created to mark the bicentennial year of birth of the Mount Royal Park's creator, American landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted (1822-1903), the exhibition focuses on the main issues that played a role in the mountain's development and preservation efforts.

Guided tour of the Hospitallers' crypt and chapel
Did you know that Jeanne Mance’s tomb is located at the Hôtel-Dieu, under the Hospitallers’ old chapel? Accompanied by a Museum guide, enter in the Hospitallers’ crypt where 600 Hospitallers are buried. Explore this unique heritage site at the heart of the Cité des Hospitalières’ complex, only recently opened to the public. The visit includes the Museum’s sacred art collection and a stop at the Hôtel-Dieu chapel, built in 1861 by architect Victor Bourgeau.

Guided tour of the monastry
Enter for the first time in the Hospitallers’s old monastery, a private dwelling place for the Montreal congregation from 1861 to 2019. Located next to the Hôtel-Dieu, the monastery is part of the convent complex, which was constructed from 1859 to 1861 by architect Victor Bourgeau. Explore the different rooms, such as the “procure”, “l’avant-choeur”, and the “roberie”, to learn about their purpose and discover the Hospitallers’ daily life in the 19th century. Even though the monastery underwent many changes during the 20th century, it continues to bear witness to the Hospitallers’ history. Led by a Museum guide, the tour is enlivened with audio witnesses by the nuns.
