SAINT CATHERINE’S DAY TAFFY WORKSHOP
Please note that both the tour and the workshiop are offered in French only.
It is said that the members of the Congregation of Our Lady (CND) have been making this sweet since the time of Marguerite Bourgeoys (1620–1700)! Maison Saint-Gabriel is one of the few places where the tradition of the famous Sainte-Catherine ‘tire’ is still alive.
The Museum offers a hands-on workshop where you can learn how to prepare and stretch the ‘tire’. Come and discover the techniques, tips and secrets to a successful recipe!
Now it’s your turn to stretch your very own Sainte-Catherine ‘tire’. Young and old alike can get involved – and, above all, enjoy a taste. Once you’ve worked hard at it, you can cut up your sweets and wrap them in foil to take home… if there are any left!
A wonderful way to discover or rediscover one of Quebec’s oldest culinary traditions.
We recommend having at least two adults to stretch the mixture, or one adult and one teenager.
Places are limited to a few families, so it’s very important to book in advance. A family ticket includes up to 2 adults and 2 children (aged 6–17).
The ticket includes a guided tour of the museum and the workshop, each lasting one hour. Two sessions are available:
- 10.00 am to 12.00 pm | Museum tour at 10.00 am and workshop at 11.00 am
- 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm | Museum tour at 1.30 pm and workshop at 2.30 pm
