Kaleidoscope Heritage in Limbo: Preserve, Transform or Forget?

MEM - Centre des mémoires montréalaises

Montréal carries the traces of its history in its silos, factories, churches and other abandoned buildings, some of them in severe disrepair. Whether they are a source of fascination or annoyance, they shape the city’s image. They also raise essential questions: should we destroy them, restore them or simply leave them standing as witnesses to the past?

The MEM invites you to a round table discussion hosted by the journalist Jean-François Nadeau. Guillaume Clément, an urban explorer; Luc Noppen, a professor of urban studies and tourism at UQAM; and François Buteau, an engineer with the City of Montréal, will offer their perspectives on the aesthetics of neglect, possible uses, costs and necessary choices.

Join the discussion on what to do with these iconic buildings: preserve, transform or turn the page?

Kaleidoscope round table discussions at the MEM bring together people with specific viewpoints on a current issue. Like a kaleidoscope, they invite us to look at the issue from different angles and to shift perspectives so we can see new patterns and nuances.
