"Charlotte and the End of Slavery in Québec" Performance-readingpresented by Black History Month
Pointe-à-callière, Montreal archaeology and history complex
Joined by Zal Sissokho on kora, Funk Lion on guitar, and Kayri on violin, the novel’s creators will bring Charlotte’s true story to life. Through music, images, and words, the tale will take you from West Africa to the British West Indies to the St. Lawrence Valley as you learn about the journey of a woman who contributed to ending slavery in Lower Canada in the late 18th century.
It’s a story of courage and resilience, providing a better understanding of how Québec became part of the transatlantic slave trade network and, more importantly, how enslaved people resisted it.
