Illusions : The Art of Magic
From May 26 2017 to January 7 2018
This exhibition is a retrospective of magic posters ever assembled for public display, dating from the Golden Age of Magic (1880s-1930s). Consisting of 71 magnificent chromolithographs and original woodcuts, several of which are very large format, the exhibition illustrates the most popular entertainers of the era: the Herrmanns, Kellar, Chung Ling Soo, Thurston and, of course, Houdini. Each section of the exhibition explores a specific type of illusion: appearance and disappearance, decapitation, levitation, escapes, and mental phenomena.
